Fundraiser in support of Canadian Blood Services

Team Luci

Luci

A year ago Luci was playing soccer and living the life of a typical 14 year old....except for increasing fatigue and shortness of breath. In June she was admitted to Vancouver Children's Hospital with a hemoglobin of 42mmHg. Normal is > 120mmHg. A rare, auto-immune disorder had caused her bone marrow to stop producing blood. Overnight, life changed.

Starting this month, Luci will be undergoing a bone marrow (a.k.a stem cell transplant). This process involves radiation, chemo, transplant and weeks in isolation, with multiple auto immune suppressent therapies. Luci and her family is facing such adversity with grace, patience and strength.

Luci Howey is my neice.   Luci has had 92 blood transfusions to date. She is a true example of how blood donation is givng the gift of life.

Not all of us can give blood. We can do just as much, by supporting the Canadian Blood Services in their vital initiatives.

We are championing this campaign to raise funds in support of Canadian Blood Services. Your support will play an integral role in connecting patients with lifesaving blood and blood products where and when they need them. By making a financial gift, you become an integral part of Canada’s Lifeline.

Each week, we will collect the names of those who donated and share them with Luci. If you would like to send a picture of yourself giving a "thumbs up", feel free to email them to info@insideoutphysio.com. We will be making a collage of these as well.

"Everyone has fears, but the brave put down their fears and go forward, towards the light". Luci is the bravest person I know. Thank you for your consideration.

In appreciation,
Jenn Howey, Luci's family and the InsideOut Physiotherapy Team.

Did you know?

  • Every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood.
  • Over 80 diseases can be treated with stem cell transplants.
  • At any given moment, approximately 4,500 Canadians are waiting for organ transplants.
  • Over 100,000 new donors are needed in Canada this year to keep pace with demand for lifesaving products and services.

Financial donations help us to strengthen our national programs and initiatives for blood, stem cells, organ and tissue donations, and research and innovation. Every donation makes a difference in our efforts to improve outcomes for Canadian patients, by helping us to:

  • Recruit the next generation of blood donors;
  • Build a robust stem cell registry that reflects Canada’s ethnic diversity;
  • Strengthen the organ and tissue donation and transplantation system; and
  • Drive world-class research in transfusion and transplantation medicine.

Thank you so much for your support. Together, we are Canada’s Lifeline.
